Our App Bridge Doodle is now available

Our work is done. Even if the development process turned me gray to my last hair, here it is: the new international version of Bridge Doddle app is now available in the Apple store (iTunes). So far it works with Iphone, Ipad, Ipod.  All of our pre-existing app clients will of course be able to access it free of charge.

It now includes the new sets for SAYC, Better Minor, ACOL (3 different styles) and Forum D 2012 – the most current five-card-major-system of the German Bridge Association.

Additional versions for other operating systems will soon follow.

You can complete the existing flashcards or – and this is the newest development – you can use your smartphone to practice your bidding and playing knowledge whilst on the move. You purchase the app once, which already contains about 30 cards, and then new sets can be easily loaded onto the app once you have familiarised yourself with the material. It contains a knowledge test as well as statistical analysis of previous setups, and individual sets can be disabled if you want to focus on a single topic or would prefer a colorful jumble of sets to practice. The program repeats the cards depending on the rating of your responses. There are five ratings ranging from Perfect to Wrong, just as suggested in the principle of flashcards by Sebastian Leitner. So try it out now! It’s a lot of fun and you will improve your bridge results in no time – guaranteed!

If you download the app, we would appreciate your feedback. Should you find any errors, please contact us… if they are content-related they will be fixed within 24 hours. After that, you need only reload the set and the error will have disappeared. If you want to provide positive feedback, just rate the app directly on iTunes. That’s the only way that other users can discover how good the app is, and how much you enjoyed it. Those are Apple’s sole criteria when it comes to sales, so you would be helping us a lot to further develop the app.

If you don’t own an iPhone, iPod or iPad, you could always just borrow one off children, neighbours or friends. But be careful – you might find yourself addicted to Bridge Doddle, which might not leave the owner terribly happy! Versions for other platforms are currently being developed and will appear as soon as possible.

Sets for the English sytems are brand new and online now! So are the first English sets for SAYC (Standard American Yellow Card – the most popular 5er-OF-system worldwide), Better Minor and three different types of ACOL, the common British system.

Especially if you want to play online – for instance on BBO – you will run into SAYC time and again. Our new English-German dictionary is ideal for this. It is not only a collection of common English terms that crop up, but it is also a collection of commonly used abbreviations which may otherwise look like double-dutch to you when you’re playing on the internet.

We also plan to constantly expand the flashcard sets. You will be able to access card sets on various topics (for both bidding and playing technique) and on the different systems very soon. Furthermore, the answers to common questions about NT, slam bidding and conventions, along with a dictionary and a detailed glossary will be created. We aim to provide five new sets per week, without letting any of our other activities suffer.

If there are people in the wide world of bridge who would like to help us develop new additional sets then please sign up immediately. One of our plans for the near future is the task of making the app available to the international community of players, not just in terms of translating, but also by transferring between completely different systems of teaching and playing, which vary from country to country.

If we haven’t managed to convince you yet, then you are more than welcome to drop by our office in Kantstr.98 in Berlin to look at the app and to try it out. This will give you an idea of why we are so thrilled about this latest project.

If you prefer the printed version of the flashcards then you can find more information here. We are looking for people who will work for us in that business as well. You will also find a list of all card sets available for the app.

You’ ll find the apple Itunes-store here.
